Our advice against rabies on video games.

Sep 15, 2022

Put down your controller or keyboard and mouse.

You really have no interest in breaking anything in a fit of rage, we know very well how it ends then. The best thing to do when you notice that you are angry is to lay down your arms. You might even want to turn everything off or go so far as to remove anything reminiscent of the game in your environment.

Recognize the physical symptoms of anger.

You may show signs of anger even before you realize you’re upset. Pay attention to how you feel physically. You may have a temper tantrum if you experience any of the following symptoms like; tense muscles and clenched jaws, headache or stomach aches, increased heart rate, dizzy shaking or sudden sweating.

Take a break and complete the game.

If you get angry, you should quit the game. Say goodbye to that aspect of the game that made you angry doing something else for a while. Taking the time to calm down will allow you to come back to the game with fresh eyes and surely even more success. The next time you need to distract yourself from your frustration, you can:

Call a friend (or meet them in person!), prepare food and snacks, clean the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen

Going out for a change of scenery is a great way to calm down quickly.

The best way to control recurring anger is to vary the time spent in and out of video games. Exercise is another great way to improve your mood. Sport makes you happy in just five minutes. It doesn’t matter what kind of sport you do. Watch your heart rate increase and your body release endorphins that make you feel good (and yes even when you clutch). Breathe deeply. When you get angry, your heart rate increases and your muscles shake and tense. You can counteract these effects by breathing deeply. You can also combine deep breathing with meditation to control your emotions. However, using breathing exercises alone can provide similar benefits to meditation. To breathe deeply, inhale for a count of three, then fill your lungs with air for a count of three. Finally, exhale for a count of three. Try to focus on the numbers when doing this. Allow your lungs to fill completely and your chest and abdomen to expand with each breath. Exhale fully each time, pausing between exhales and inhales. Keep breathing until you feel you have regained control.

And finally… from experience, we can tell you that…

In a more frank way, the fact of raging on video games relatively often expresses incompetence and the fact of not succeeding in doing what one wants to do. In FPS, it will be the fact of dying every round, of not succeeding in killing or of the famous “my mates suck” (which, even if generally true, happens to be just as often false). If you want to find a way to stop raging, improve yourself, train yourself, whether it’s safe third-party software, like aimlab for aim, word processing for APM, reaction time tests or whatever.
Training is the best way to calm his frustration, or diminish the reasons for it. The stronger you become, the more you will be able to do what you want to do. Give yourself the means to succeed in winning your games. If your rage comes from something other than your own incompetence, try changing the people you play with. Also, change games if the game is too toxic for you or the environment (it also plays a lot to have a bad setup or external things that don’t allow a good game session.)
