The French are addicted to screens
To begin :
As most French people might suspect, a large part of the French population can no longer do without screens.
Indeed, according to a study by Odoxa for the office EAG Advice , 28% of the French are declared dependent to screens.
This study is based on a survey conducted in September 2022 on 2010 French from just about every social class.
The electronic appliances and more specifically the screens have become an extension of our hands and have taken the form of everything possible, telephone, television, consoles, watches. They are everywhere in our daily lives. Is it possible for a human being today to be cut off from screens for more than 24 hours? Certainly it is possible, but at what cost ? The consequences in terms of well-being would surely be negative as our daily is used to to these screens.
Numbers :
The numbers are high: 14.5M French adults ( 28% ) present risks of cyberdependance . In this fairly global result, we can dissociate and dig deeper in order to go into more detail.
Indeed, regarding the smart phone , an essential object that allows us to do (almost) everything, 8% French people say they are totally dependent on it. Go for a walk in the station of a big city, you will see that 90% of the travelers who wait their trains are on their smartphones.
Following the increase in streaming in the world with ever more platforms and with more and more titles, it is indeed the binge-watching (series addiction) which scares the most these days. 7.8M of French adults say they often watch series without being able to stop. To go further, the study even specifies that it is 52% people under 35 years and 46% of the 35-49 years old . Going further, this includes 44% of the active unemployed and 49% of the active with employment . To know that 5% ( 2.6M ) of French people say they are addicted to series.
Another important information: when we speak directly of finances, and therefore of online purchases (as well as online casinos), the French are just as fond . 6% the French ( 3.1M ) practice a risky addiction to online purchases and 3% claim to be dependent on it. Regarding gambling, the figures are lower, 1.6M of French ( 3% ) assume that they gamble too much in relation to their income and 2% declare this as a dependency. About the video games , the numbers are just as important: 2.1M ( 4% ) of French are close to dependence and 50% of them assume to be dependent on it.
To conclude
In a world where the technology continues expand , It is nearly impossible to cut yourself off from all those screens. But we can afford to live better with it. Several techniques exist via limited times in front of the screens (a stopwatch with an allotted time), or else limiting activities (prohibition of buying online for example). Can also take care of your body by taking food supplements which allow us to better manage your health in front of the screen , especially with the 1337. It is also necessary to ensure maintain human contact because dependent people will tend to detach themselves from the social world to the detriment of screens.
The conclusion seems quite logical and clear to everyone. Screens are good and make our lives easier, but don’t fall into addiction and we must continue to be careful in order to stay healthy.
